This is a non-monetized page and no one can pay to be here. I do not do mean or nasty reviews – if someone has failed us we just move on.
We support and wish to promote the businesses and services who work with quality and service. These are who we have found so far.
Off to a courageous, glitch-filled new start!
Read the page in multiple languages – I have Google Translate here on this page – SEE side bar if on a laptop. Or below, toward the bottom on some digital devices, depending on your device.
I have supported local businesses for many years and now we add Toronto.
I also freely add businesses and vendors and services as any local resident lets us know who needs a vote of recognition. My page is FREE to all who are listed here and to all who read. Businesses cannot pay to be on here; all recommendations are based on customer recommendations or my own positive experiences. If you know a great local product or service, please use the link below and tell us so we can see if we can freely add them too.
I have been gone 22 years from Toronto and he, Dai, has been gone 42 years. We have to find the ways and means and places again. I share this homecoming journey and welcome all ideas for newcomers and locals alike.
Where to go, what to do and how to get there…
Trans-Canada Movers
I have lived on four continents and Dai on five so we know the perils of moving. But Trans Canada’s people from start to finish have been wonderful – Amazing. Felt like we were family. I have many thoughts and pictures of how good everyone was and the connections they helped me with.
Getting sorted
Service Ontario and Service Canada are the go to websites – from A to Zed there isn’t anything you will need for resettlement that they could not answer. Many things need appointments and so use the websites to know before you go!

And no small feat to find a place to live
Recommended and Googled as a great neighborhood Danforth Village has long been a go to neighborhood. This will be our first neighborhood to feature.
Soon Rushden Station will add 1,000s of flats to the neighborhood and there are several buildings around the intersection – but Real Star offers immediate occupancy at their property Main Square. Their staff are remarkable and wonderful.

A Plus Cut – South West Quadrant Main and Danforth

Wow and wow again – a he and a she and A Plus adds up to two great cutters! Dai got a wonderful cut and we both have been back again and again. I can’t say enough good things as I am a wash and shake and go person and she knew just what i wanted and needed and cut it just so it is perfect for everything.
A Plus Cuts has he and she and unisex and both cutters are great at any of the three. Cut it, color it, any way you like it they will make you day – Walk IN!
Country Wide:
Printing, printers are part of many lives. Holidays and promotions and charity can lead to rush jobs. I have not found a reasonable local printer. I have used one who was told my occasion was a charity event and as a senior, I was paying for it myself. He missed something? He went up on the price on a large part of the order not once, but twice. And, he tells me the price hike over the phone and then when I said to cut back part pf the order whose price was hiked, he said he had already printed the entire set. So no local recommendations for printers and printing companies.
SO Vistaprint for me

https://www.vistaprint.ca/printed-in-canada
I have used VistaPrint Canada for years and years and make calendars, and flyers and cards and indoor and outdoor banners with bags and cups and more. Just need to plan ahead, so no last minute devastating, costly mistakes.

“…Gabby’s was founded in 1988 by a local Toronto family, opening our first location in March 1989. From day one, we aimed to create a cozy, welcoming environment where guests could enjoy freshly cooked meals, great draft beer, and an extensive selection of spirits—all while watching major sporting events. More than 35 years later, Gabby’s has grown into a beloved casual dining spot, serving over 45,000 people a week across our 14 locations in Toronto…”

Who Is? Cherielynnsherstory
…and why for the last years, three blogs were turned into one and one job led to another of trying to keep these pages sorted out has been of course the pandemic. Our very own 21st century plague that so destroyed so many records and record keepers that us genealogists love so much.
Now with AI we see that genealogy is again being rewritten with makes that seen to appear from the far reaches of the universe. Much like the trees on the internet one must realize the countless ,mistakes that can happen just by mistake when dealing with linking software.
How to for genealogy has been the foundation of this particular blog and it is genealogy for the world and not just one place. Nothing from Mars yet but with any luck “they” will ID some cell and give it a name and then we will have the first genealogy record for Mars.
This page is a collection of helps and hints to settle into this or that neighborhood and follows from pages from and for places around the world. So pandemic and age and now senior budgets I have folded them all into one. So the contents list is eclectic and I hope fun.
There are other blog pages of DNA for genealogy, the travel pages for mineral springs and health, the local support pages for businesses, service and farms and coming soon…
Use the SEARCH feature and location anything you wish to read about from Hot Springs in Virginia and Hot Springs in Turkey to DNA from all angles and what’s for dinner off the farm.
Who are…
Dai has Torontonians going back to 1838 ish. John Bulls-eye Wilson’s candy store and tavern sat on Church Street and Muddy York. Bulls-eye was married twice, loosing our dear grandmother Elizabeth in 1856 and marrying Mrs Susan Hill and had a second family of children. Soon after he died.
The amazing and wonderful thing about DNA for genealogy is that our DNA of our descendants from grandmother Elizabeth and Bulls-eye match the DNA of the descendants of step grandmother Susan and Bulls-eye – they are roughly 2nd cousins 3rd and so magnificent to see the centimorgans so clearly identifiable and matching.
I, on the other hand, “landed” and became a naturalized citizen about 40 years ago and 23 years ago. With the exception – my great grandparents are from Quebec and being of First Nations heritage my family has been here a long long long time. And the DNA of my mother and of me all clearly show the ancestry of our North American heritage.
